It's been almost a year. Well, what can I say? Seems like just yesterday that I set foot into McNair Lodge. I still remember searching the internet for pictures of the hostel that I would be living in for the next 2 years, coming across Kingston's blog (He happens to be my senior in this hostel, but I didn't know him yet at that time. He's the senior with the red face. haha..) and looking at the pictures. I said to myself and those around me at the time, "eww"...shoes strewn all over, small rooms and what not..first impressions really killed the place. I didn't want to go. My mind was still set on going to Taylor's College; just as my friends and I have planned since early Form 5.
Since entering the hostel, greeted by the sign "Welcome Scholars" (which happens to be still stuck forever at the entrance; we all thought that they had stuck it there to welcome us but turns out, it's forever stuck there!) and looking at the hostel surroundings, the wading pool in the middle which later became the place where we celebrate birthdays and dump the birthday guy or gal into the pool XD
Entering the room, I was quite disappointed at the size of the cupboard that each of us were allocated. It's too small to keep everything I had brought. Hence, my room is now a mess. A HUGE MESS. Especially my table. In addition to the already small room and walking space, it's 5 people to a room! I really marvel at how the guys can keep their rooms so neat and tidy, especially Aaron, Ravjit and Caesar's room. It must be Caesar's constant mopping the floor and tidying up the room in the middle of the night, what with him being nocturnal and all. I'm not saying that Aaron and Rav are untidy, just that with Caesar there, it's super clean and neat. And I thought girls were the ones who were supposed to be neat. Hah..proves me wrong! Anyways, in my defense, girls have wayy many more stuff (toiletries, revision books and clothings) than guys.
Moving on, the canteen. Our beloved gathering area where we meet almost every night to chat and surf the internet. The hostel internet really sucks. It's always down since the mid of the year. Plus, there is a limit as to how many people can access it at a time. Really a hassle especially during Project Work period where internet connectivity is essential. Thank gawd I subscribed to a portable internet, my trusty M1 modem which is slow loading sometimes, but still, better than nothing. Really gotta invest in one of these things out here. It becomes really handy in times to come.
The internet's free, laundry service is free, air-conditioning is free, heater is free, come to think of it, despite the small rooms, getting these free stuff is better than the other hostels out there (They have to pay for what we get for free! Muahahahaha).
The mamak shop! The place we hang out the most here. Conveniently located near our hostel (only a good 10 to 15 minutes walk from our hostel), we chill there most nights enjoying Masala thosai, roti prata, MILO AIS! and many more. Even the shopkeeper there knows us! I mean, of course la, regular customers wat...
Bendemeer Market, where there is a hawker centre and our favourite Veggie Pizza (so not vegetarian) and Takoyaki (Octopus ball) stall. Takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get there from our hostel. Another hawker centre would be the Whampoa Food Court. Similar-to-Malaysian-food galore! We only just recently found it and is the place where we seek refuge whenever we feel like feeling Malaysian. There's satay, ikan bakar, etc etc...huge place. Of course, cannot compare to Malaysian food, but it's the best we've got. Price also very nice:) *sarcastic*
Sheng Siong. The mini market where we could get our groceries easily at a relatively cheaper price. Located only 10 minutes away from our hostel, on the way to the mamak shop.
Really glad that we have so many places near our hostel. Unlike NJC's hostel (National Junior College) where they have to walk really far just to get to the nearest bus-stop to take them to places for groceries and stuff. Went there once, to visit Chun Kit and Edmund. Sneaked into Chun Kit's room. The place is really strict. Each has an access card that can only access their own floor where their room is located at. Plus, they have teachers staying there as well! Imagine the tension. LOL..kidding.
Suddenly thought of the salesman that comes to my grandma's house every Wednesday to sell kedai runcit kind of stuff like dried food stuff and eggs. We call him the egg man.hahahah.."AH MA! EGG MAN IS HERE!" Then we will buy snacks and sweets, bread, sauces, bla... I like the smell of the van. ahaha...very homely smell. I wonder if he still goes to my grandma's house. The uncle's quite old liao. So's his light green van.
I have digressed. Back to life in Singapore. I think I'm jumping from point to point. Forgive me if it's confusing. Just typing it as it comes into my mind=)
I think friendships here, well, some of it, is very superficial. Like surface level kind of friendships. Don't like it. I mean, between us Directs, I think we're pretty bonded. As in we can confide in each other. Was just having this convo with Nick the other night.
Coming here really opened my eyes to different types of people. Some are bold, headstrong, stubborn, have really strong opinions about certain matters. Take my PW group for example, some of them don't compromise and give in to each others ideas. They will demand an explaination. WHY? WHY? WHY? I can't give you the explaination! Sometimes, things just are!
Why don't people compromise? That way, no misunderstandings! I mean, not compromise to the extent that you compromise for the wrong stuff. But if someone else's idea is better, accept it la..
COMPROMISE AND GIVING IN.
Sometimes, giving in would help make situations less tense. And everyone would be happy, well, almost? That's my point of view. Don't know if you get what I mean. haha..
In another case, however, Adelyn has a PW group mate who doesn't even contribute at all! It's like this, even though that person does not contribute, she'll still get roughly the same marks as her other group mates who slog their asses off doing this project. Unfair, right? That's why Adelyn's pissed. Super pissed.
I just realized that almost everywhere I go, every school I go to so far has the name Adeline or Adelyn in it. Haha..
I'm taking lifeless quizzes on Facebook as I type this.lol
Currently having a freakin' flu/cold whatever and sore throat and feel feverish. Shit...I have OP assessment on Monday (9/11/2009)! God help me. I HAVE to recover by then.
Slept a lot yesterday. 4.30 to 7.30pm and from 12 something to 8.00am. Then, had to go Esther's house in Kovan for PW OP dry run. Dragged myself out of bed. Reached Kovan with Ariena at 9am only to my blurness found out that we were too early. The actual meeting time was 9.30am. Thanks to me and my blurness, sat on the floor in the MRT station in front of the wall concealing the fire hose for a good half an hour reflecting on our PW group and project. Slept on Esther's marble floor. (We were doing work in the living room and lying on the floor. Then, I accidentally slept. Oops! Too lethargic. Seriously. Must be the flu/cold/whatever.)
Esther's mum made chicken curry for all of us hungry souls. Really good stuff! Ate with bread and corn. Yumm.. I miss home-cooked food to the max! Debbie was funny. Cause she cannot tahan spicy food, so she was "Omg..how can you all finish the gravy! So spicy! I struggling to finish it, you know!" The last time, she ate some nasi ayam thing (I forgot the exact name. I was some Indon food) at Food Republic, Vivo City and she was practically in tears. She couldn't even eat black pepper! haha...
I freezing in the study room. Air con blowing at me. Feel like a popsicle. lalala...
I sneezed. Hurts my throat.
Have PW in Esther's house again..lazy to go. But I must! just for another 3 days?
*sniff sniff*
end..
dunno what to type liao. This is just a spam-what-I'm-feeling-at-the-moment thing.
Gona type my OP script out. Sheesh.
Oh ya! coz this week is PW week ryt..so, yesterday my timetable was only civics from 8.00 to 9.00am where we had free ice-cream coz my class won 3rd place for best conduct of the year! UNEXPECTED. SERIOUSLY.
After that, we watched Shutter (a horror movie) and Passengers (thriller). On the projector. In class. Padahal we supposed to use the time for our own PW practice. haha...
My class is like less antoo about PW compared to Nick's and Caesar's class. I salute their class, man!
Well, the Sec 3 juniors came in just last mid-month. They've all gone to their respective hostels liao. The other week we took them out to Bugis to shop, had a Seniors-Meet-Juniors session by the pool (some of them skeptical to come because they scared kena dumped in the pool! ahhaha!)
Now, the Vietnamese and Indon scholars for the Sec 3 batch next year has arrived. Places all fully occupied.
kk. Now I shall really end my post. hahah
