Hey people!
So, it's my first post all the way from Singapore. Sorry for not updating for so long. Was quite busy with orientation and 'bonding' with my new batch mates. Anyways..really, really, REALLY missed home the first 2 days. Especially the second day and I was actually crying. Too depressed la.heh..
My hostel's really cool actually. Although it's like, the smallest hostel, but there's free air-con and internet, which other hostels require scholars to pay. There's a wading pool-we chillax there every night and listen to guitars. Oh! another thing. I dunno why, but it's super windy here at night but super hot in the daytime. Like desert. So, I'll sometimes shiver coz it's too cold.
I'll post some pics on my hostel later on. Haven't gotten around to taking pics yet, actually.

Arrived at Mcnair Lodge super duper early. I was one of the first one here. Filled up some forms, then went to the MOE to get the scholarship agreement signed. After that, registered for a number with Singtel. It's a prepaid line, so I spent like, nearly $10 bucks within 2 days by calling home. Before going back to the hotel, my parents, brother and I ate at Ajisen Ramen. Super chun, man! But somehow, I miss Kinsahi la.
Then, my parents left at 4.30pm to miss rush hour traffic, leaving me to fend for myself. Poor me. At that time, I din even know any friends. So, I grabbed my laptop-my saviour! and sat at the canteen-the only place with internet access.
29th January 2009
First day of MOE orientation.
We went to Raffles Instituition. Damn friggin nice place, I tell you. So, we were saying that MOE wanted to give a big-time first impression of Singapore to us or to 'intimidate us' so they brought us to the best JC in Singapore, I think.heh..
Our orientation was organized by TRYBE. It's pronounced as tribe but the 'i' in the middle was changed to 'y' to represent youth. Really cool people. The 'theme' that day was Intercultural Learning to mainly bridge the gap between all scholars from different cultures and countries. (There are scholars from India under the SIA Youth Scholarship. Real nice people.)
So, we were divided into groups and then played games like the Alligator River Story. We had to discuss the best and worst character and give reasons why we chose that character, then rank them. So, the discussion was quite heated. But I din really join in coz, whatever I thought, when I wanted to say it out, someone else was faster. So, I was super quiet. Partially coz I damn emo that day.
Later, my group facillitator, Kai taught us new games and it was super funny. After that, they brought us pair by pair into a room. When I entered, there were candles in the middle in a circle like some kind of ritual was going on. Initially, when I was outside, I thought it was gonna be some scary thing where they go 'BOO!' the moment you enter to give you the fright of your life. So, when I entered, I thought they were gonna summon spirits or smth.lol..everyone else who went in earlier than us seemed confused and bored. They all sat in a circle. Guys on chairs, girls on the floor beside the chairs (unfair, man!). Then the lady was making rat noises and wouldn't use normal English. She goes 'tsk tsk tsk' (smth like that) to instruct us on what to do. So you can bet there was confusion on what she wanted us to do. Anyways, the whole aim is to make us adapt to the different cultures in Singapore and stuff.
Then, had a mass dance to the Algorithm March. It's a dance sorta invented by Japanese. Youtube it! It's super cool man! The dance damn cute.
Shan't elaborate more. Lazy to type.haha..
30th January 2009
Went for my medical examination today. Got injected and X-rayed. The X-ray mach here is super advanced. Not like the huge one in JB. You just have to 'hug' the screen to get your X-ray taken.
Then, it was a visit to my school. Damn big. Chun-ted. Met my teacher mentors: Mr Benjamin and Miss Karen.
Went mamak stall hunting at night coz Ravjit misses teh tarik.lol.. Ate at a mamak stall at Bendemeer Street. Didn't order anything coz I ate at the hostel before we went. Kept taking pieces of Nicholas' roti tisu.heh..
Surprisingly, people here dunno what's roti canai. Must say roti prata den oni they noe.lol..it's like a totally different thing here la..
Another thing..people here like to use acronyms even for the shortest of words like umbrella is refered to as 'ella'. WTH. lol..there are other stuff too...but that was the most memorable one. Maybe they got influenced by too much of Rihanna's 'Umbrella' song. "Ella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh"
31st January 2009
Went to Anderson JC for last day of MOE Orientation. We had so much fun playing treasure hunt around AMK (Ang Mo Kio) Hub- shopping mall and at the Bishan Public Library. The library is huge weii..next tym i can chillax there after school or smth.lol..The main aim's to get us ready to go to school so they had activities based on school life and stuff. Real cool people.
At night, went to Little India with a few friends. Ate prata and drank teh tarik. I'm getting fat.
1st February 2009

2nd February 2009
Orientation at school. It was crazy la..had to mass dance to 'Beat It' by Michael Jackson. Crazy stuff..couldn't catch up with the beat coz it was a lil too fast.lol..Just learn today, ok??
Lots of fun la..and there's still a whole week of it!heh..but tiring.
